ACM Adds In-Mold Decorating to Its Injection Molding
Capabilities
New Value-Added Service Offers High-Quality Alternative
to Traditional Product Decoration Methods
Kokomo, IN: November 1, 2006 - ACM - Adept Custom Molders has
added a new service to its array of Injection Molding Manufacturing
capabilities. A recent innovation and developing technology, In-Mold
Decorating is a high quality alternative to more traditional methods of
injection molded plastic product decoration, such as Hot Stamping; Pad
Printing; and Heat Transfer or Pressure-Sensitive labels.
The in-mold decorating process can apply design elements to an injection
molded plastic part during the molding process. In-mold decorating can add
multi-color corporate logos, graphic images, text, or design patterns to a
plastic part, resulting in sharp, clear and durable decorations that should
last the life of the part. Designs can be
produced in virtually any color to precisely match the
customer's requirements.
Developed for a customer in need of a large box to securely hold wall
covering samples, the final product needed to be distinctive and impressive
in design because of their target audience: Interior Designers, Architects,
etc. "The client chose
in-molding decorating because it was by far the best looking, although not
the least expense method we showed them," stated Larry Maltsberger, ACM's
Cost Coordinator.
The in-mold decorating process can apply design elements to an injection
molded plastic part during the molding process. A transfer film is carefully
placed into the mold before injecting the plastic material. The single step
process adds all the colors and design elements as the part is molded,
eliminating additional steps or secondary operations.
The manufacturer of the insert overlays for the in-mold decorating had not
used this application on such a large scale, so, with assistance from ACM
engineers, they combined processes used on other projects and applied a new
variation to a bigger product than they had previously manufactured.
"This new process gives us the ability to add intricate designs and
decorations to a whole new range of larger size products," stated
Maltsberger. "We are pleased to now be able to offer this new value-added
service to our customers."
